One PLA, two PREPAK rebel outfits nabbed in separate operations in Manipur

Imphal, Mar 23: Security forces in Manipur on Thursday nabbed three cadres of two rebel outfits in separate operations, police said.

One of the cadres belongs to the RPF/PLA while the other two belong to PREPAK, the police also said.

The PLA cadre has been identified as Wahengbam Paikhomba Meitei alias Nanao alias Akajao (33).

He was arrested during a raid at his house at Kumbi Thingel Leikai under Kumbi police station of Bishnupur district where a combined team of Bishnupur district police commandos and 9 Assam Rifles raided today morning.

The police also said that the combined team rushed to the house of the cadre based on specific information regarding his movement and arrested him.

He was actively involved in the extortion of money from the government offices located in Imphal West district for party funds, the police alleged.

The two cadres of the banned PREPAK outfit were arrested by a team of Imphal West police commandos during a counter insurgency operation at Lairenkabi under Lamshang police station of Imphal West district today morning, around 6 am.

The arrested cadres have been identified as Chandam Chandramani alias Gambhir (45) and Sorokhaibam Khamba (46). Both are residents of Lairenkabi, the police said.

The operation was launched based on specific information that they were staying at their respective homes, the police also said.

They were involved in serving demand letters and collection of money from the private schools in Imphal West district, the police alleged. They were working under the command of one Khambaton of the outfit PREPAK, the police further alleged.

Both the arrested cadres were handed over to Lamshang police station for further necessary investigation and legal action, the police added.
