One police on poll duty killed in accidental firing

Imphal: One police personnel on poll duty was killed in what has been termed as suspected accidental firing today.

According to Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur, Rajesh Agrawal, the police personnel identified as Havildar Naorem Ibochouba Singh who was detailed for poll duty at 55/37 Senvon (C) polling station in Tipaimukh assembly constituency was killed today. “It is suspected to be accidental firing from his service weapon as per UD Case No.01/2022 PBG-PS u/s 174 CrPC dated 28th February, 2022,” said the CEO in his condolence message.

Havildar Naorem Ibochouba Singh hailed from Kakching Labungo Pareng, Kakching district.

The dead body was recovered by concerned officials with the help of Rapid Response team (RRT) and brought to Imphal by helicopter and deposited at JNIMS morgue. One sub-inspector (IO) and a magistrate accompanied the dead body, the CEO added.
