The Manipur Health department on Saturday sent the swab sample of a UK returnee, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on his arrival in Imphal few days ago, for testing for new Covid strain to National Institute of Virology (NIV) Pune, according to Manipur Medical superintendent of JNIMS hospital Prof Kh Lokeshore.

Mention may be made that the two natives of the state who studied in the UK (the United Kingdom) returned to the state on December 26 last.

One of them tested negative for the COVID-19 while the other tested positive for the virus.

Being a returnee from the UK where the spread of the new strain of Covid was reported, the state Health authority kept him at an isolated ward of a Covid care centre in Imphal.

His family members were also kept confined in their house, pending the test results for the new mutant strain of Covid-19 emerging in the UK.
