One succumbs to COVID-19 related illness in Meghalaya

A 74-year-old woman died of a COVID-19 related illness in Meghalaya, taking the death toll related to the disease in the state to 153 on Sunday.

Meanwhile, 73 more persons have tested positive for COVID-19, taking the active cases in the state to 680 on Sunday, according to Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War.

Dr War said the new cases include 36 in East Khasi Hills district, 12 each in Ri Bhoi district and West Jaintia Hills district, 5 in West Garo Hills district, 3 in West Khasi Hills district, 2 each in South West Khasi Hills district and East Jaintia Hills district and 1 in East Garo Hills district.

He informed as many as 41 patients have also recovered from the viral infection of which 40 are from East Khasi Hills district and 1 from East Jaintia Hills district.

So far, the state has detected a total of 14,703 COVID-19 cases out of which 680 are active cases, 14,038 recovered and 153 deaths.

East Khasi Hills has 470 active cases, West Jaintia Hills 109, Ri Bhoi 45, East Jaintia Hills 17, West Garo Hills 13, West Khasi Hills 18, South West Khasi Hills 6, East Garo Hills 1 and North Garo Hills 1.

On the other hand, of the 4,35,552 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 4,20,681 were tested negative for the virus even as 149 persons are in institutional quarantine and 531 under home quarantine.

There are 1,05,833 entrants from outside the state.
