In view of the rapid increase in the daily COVID-19 infections in the twin state capital districts-Imphal West and Imphal East, the Manipur government has extended restrictions imposed in the Greater Imphal area till May 16. The area covers a major portion of Imphal East and Imphal West districts.

On April 30, the state government notified Greater Imphal as a containment zone for seven days to check the Covid-19 spread.

Manipur chief secretary in-charge MH Khan, who is also the chairman in-charge of state executive committee of the state Disaster Management Authority, issued the order extending the containment period on Thursday night.
