Agartala, Jul 9: Heavy rainfall across Tripura has reportedly created flood conditions in South Tripura district, with the Muhuri River reaching critical levels at Belonia while over 750 residents remain in relief camps following yesterday’s waterlogging that submerged homes and displaced families.
According to official reports, the continuous downpours on July 8, 2025, caused severe waterlogging across various areas of Belonia subdivision, with floodwater entering residential properties and trapping residents. District and subdivision administrations reportedly responded immediately to rescue stranded victims and established emergency relief camps to accommodate the displaced population.
Following urgent directives from the Chief Minister’s office and an emergency call from district administration, a specialized 30-member team from the National Disaster Response Force arrived in Belonia on Wednesday evening. The two-day continuous rainfall had reportedly escalated the flood situation to alarming levels, with the Muhuri River flowing above danger levels on Tuesday.

According to official reports, as of July 9, 2025, a total of 757 people from 231 families have taken shelter in 12 relief camps across Belonia subdivision. The displaced population reportedly comprises 336 men, 341 women, and 80 children. Administration officials are reportedly providing regular meals and medical care based on requirements. Additionally, 19 families have sought shelter in four relief camps in Santirbazar, while no relief camps were required in Sabroom.
District Magistrate Mohammad Sajad P addressed media representatives at the South Tripura district office conference hall on Wednesday evening, stating that while flood conditions have shown some improvement, district administration and disaster management authorities remain vigilant. He reported that rainfall has decreased since Wednesday afternoon, with water levels beginning to recede across multiple rivers.
According to official monitoring data, the Muhuri River at Bankar gauge station in Belonia has recorded 14.40 meters as of Wednesday evening, down from above 15.50 meters on Tuesday. The Feni River at Sabroom Bazar Ghat is flowing at 17 meters, while the Muhuri River at Jolaibari Kakulia RCC Bridge area is flowing below 24 meters. The Lowgang River at Santirbazar Bridge is flowing below 19 meters.

Minister Shukla Charan Noatia handed over two boats, each costing 7.64 lakh rupees, to the Belonia and Santirbazar Sub-divisional magistrates on Wednesday afternoon. The district now maintains ten boats for flood rescue operations, with seven State Disaster Response Force teams currently deployed across South Tripura district.
While Gomati district has not reported flood conditions, authorities are reportedly maintaining vigilant monitoring of the Gomati River at multiple locations. According to official data, at Amarpur gauge station near Rangamati bridge, the water level reached 29.09 meters at 6:15 PM, approaching the flood level of 30.50 meters. At Subhash Bridge in Udaipur, the Gomati River reportedly recorded 20.30 meters at 8:30 PM, reaching the designated flood level of 20.30 meters.
The Muhuri River embankment repair work, ongoing under Chief Minister’s office directives, has been accelerated to prevent future flooding incidents. Many families have reportedly begun returning to their homes as water levels continue to recede across affected areas.
