Over five lakh samples tested for COVID-19 in Manipur

The number of samples tested for COVID-19 in Manipur has crossed five lakhs on Wednesday, even as the overall infection tally is closing in to 29,000-mark.

According to the daily COVID-19 status update report of the Manipur Health department, a total of 1,248 samples in a span of 24 hours took the total number of samples tested for COVID-19 in the state to 5,01,237.

During the testing of 1,248 samples for COVID-19, only 19 of them were diagnosed with the viral disease, taking the overall number of people exposed to the pandemic in the state to 28,919. All the fresh cases reported in the past 24 hours (till 5pm of January 20) are from the general population. Of the 19 fresh cases, six are from Churachandpur, five from Imphal West, four from Kangpokpi, two from Imphal East, and one each from Kakching and Chandel, the COVID-19 Common Control stated.

Meanwhile, the tally included 28,308 recoveries as 10 more patients were discharged after they recovered from the viral disease on Wednesday.

COVID-19 active cases in the state further dipped below 250-mark as 10 patients were discharged after they recovered from the deadly viral disease took the number of active cases to 244.

The state’s COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.88%.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 Common Control Room advised those who are in contact with a COVID-19 positive person to isolate themselves immediately, contact the Covid Control room or the district CMO for testing.

The state Health department has also advised the public to dial – 104 Manipur Mental Health Helpline from 9 am to 9 pm, for mental wellbeing.

Meanwhile, as no COVID-19 fatality was reported in the state on Wednesday, the death toll related to the disease stands at 367.
