IMPHAL: The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) has urged the Central government to resolve the “core issues” with the NSCN-IM rather than setting a time-frame to sign “final agreement” of the Naga political issue.
PDA said it is a regional political party based in Manipur formed by the hill based people of Manipur state.
In a press statement, the PDA drew the attention of the Central government regarding the reported deadline set by the latter to sign the “final agreement” of the Naga political issue within the month of September 2020. The PDA said that instead of setting the deadline, it is important to iron out differences with the NSCN-IM “in line with the Framework Agreement”. The PDA said it has a strong concern on the peace talks “since the party is a supporter of peace”.
The PDA then appealed to the Central government to be “responsible and sagacious” in dealing with the NSCN-IM which “had come forward to the negotiating table on the invitation of the Prime Minister of India”. The PDA also appealed to the Central government to stop “using pressure tactics” on the NSCN-IM and also stop “setting deadlines but rather concentrate on addressing the core issues in the atmosphere of trust and sincerity”.
It then said that the People’s Democratic Alliance has been “supportive of the initiative taken up by the Central government to bring peace in the region”. It then added, “As a regional party operating in Manipur it has never shied away from its responsibilities in strengthening peace among different communities and political parties”.
