People’s support needed to bring back peace in state: Manipur Governor

Imphal: Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey on Monday reiterated her appeal to two communities in conflict to “retreat and embrace peace”.

Talking to reporters on the sideline of an event at Raj Bhavan here, the governor said that normalcy has started limping back in the state.

She said that the state government and the centre have been putting all their efforts into bringing back peace and normalcy in the state. However, it would not be possible without the support of the people of both communities in conflict, she added.

She also said that the ongoing eight-month-old crisis arising out of the conflict has had a great impact on the development pace in the state

Both the communities must retreat and help in bringing back peace and normalcy in the state, she further added.

The governor also said that the central government has been tirelessly working to bring back peace in the state. The centre has been discussing with leaders of various organisations and political parties to break the ice and there has been positive progress.

The governor hoped that all the disagreements and misunderstandings between the two communities in conflict would be resolved at the earliest and the state would return to normalcy and tranquillity once again.

Earlier, the governor took part in the launch of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047: Voice of Youth’ via video conferencing at Imphal Raj Bhavan along with state education minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh, vice-chancellors, directors and heads of some universities and other higher educational institutions in the state.

After hearing the address of prime minister Modi, a panel discussion was held with three topics – Empowered Indians, Thriving and Sustainable Economy and Innovation, Science and Technology.

Experts from the Manipur University of Culture and Bir Tikendrajit University who talked on the topic “Empowered Indians, expressed their views on how the citizens especially the youths can be empowered by enhancing knowledge and its application towards building a strong and developed nation”.

On Thriving and Sustainable Economy, experts from Manipur University and Dhanamanjuri University opined for tapping and channelizing resources which can bring about sustainable economic prosperity towards making India a developed nation by 2047.

On Innovation, Science and Technology, experts from Central Agricultural University advocated the need to develop and introduce new technologies in the agricultural sector so as to increase productivity.

Information Technology (IIIT) opined to develop innovative ideas in Science and Technology so that products can be manufactured directly instead of importing from other countries and assembling them in India.

After the panel discussion, the governor said that Indian policymakers today have a new clear goal.

“Because our prime minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech has set the vision and goal of making India a developed nation in the next 25 years by the time we celebrate 100 years of independence in the year 2047,” she said.

The governor stated that developed India is a huge opportunity for the youths. So, it is important that college and university students participate enthusiastically and in large numbers in Ideas from Youth for Developed India 2047, she also said.
