UKHRUL: A conservation awareness activity titled “Play for Pangolin” was organised by ENFOGAL in collaboration with the Zoo Department of Pettigrew College to engage students in learning about the conservation of the Chinese pangolin and the importance of protecting wildlife.
The activity was conducted as part of the Community-Led Conservation of Chinese Pangolin in Manipur initiative, with support from GreenHub and Royal Enfield. Through interactive games and learning activities, students were introduced to the ecological importance of pangolins, the threats they face, and the role communities can play in their protection.
The programme aimed to make wildlife conservation more engaging and accessible to young people while encouraging students to become advocates for pangolin conservation within their communities.
The initiative also highlighted the importance of collaboration among educational institutions, local communities and conservation organisations in protecting the Chinese pangolin, one of the world’s most threatened and illegally trafficked mammals.
By combining education with play and participation, “Play for Pangolin” sought to inspire a new generation to understand, value and protect Manipur’s unique wildlife.
“A species can vanish in silence long before we notice its absence. The pangolin’s survival depends not on what we know, but on what we choose to protect before it’s too late — and that choice belongs to every community, every leader, every one of us,” Chingrisoror Rumthao, WTI field officer said.
