Imphal, Ukhrul, September 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Manipur on Saturday, September 13, marking his first trip to the state in more than two years and since the ethnic violence that broke out on May 3, 2023. The visit will focus on development initiatives and outreach to affected communities.
The Prime Minister’s day will begin in the neighbouring state of Mizoram, where he will inaugurate the state’s first railway line—the Bairabi–Sairang section—in Aizawl. From there, he will travel to Manipur for a series of development engagements.
In Churachandpur, where he is scheduled to arrive around 12:15 PM, the Prime Minister will meet internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Kuki community, lay the foundation for projects worth Rs 7,344 crore, and address a public gathering at the Peace Ground in Tuibong. The projects include major infrastructure works such as the Manipur Urban Roads and Drainage Improvement Project, the Manipur Infotech Development Project (MIND), working women’s hostels, super-speciality healthcare facilities in hill districts, rural connectivity, school infrastructure upgrades, and road projects under Bharatmala Pariyojana.
Later in the afternoon, Modi will proceed to Imphal, reaching the historic Kangla Fort around 2:30 PM. There, he will interact with IDPs from the Meitei community and inaugurate 17 completed projects worth Rs 1,203 crore. These cover governance, connectivity, and public welfare, including the new Civil Secretariat Complex at Mantripukhri, Manipur Bhawans in New Delhi and Kolkata, the IT-SEZ Building-I, Ima Markets (Mother’s Markets) at four sites, an Integrated Police Headquarters, bridges, new government colleges, and district-level infrastructure.

Manipur Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, addressing the media in Imphal on Friday, urged the public to extend a warm welcome to the Prime Minister and participate in the programmes.
