Police pick up 43 ILP defaulters including six women

Imphal: Police on Sunday picked up as many as 43 defaulters of Inner Line Permit (ILP) including six women during a special drive in Kanglatongbi area under Sekmai police station of Imphal West district, police said.

The drive was conducted by a combined team of Sekmai police station and Imphal West police commandos to detect ILP defaulters in some localities in Kanglatombi area under Sekmai police station, the police also said.

As many as 114 non-locals staying in the localities including nine women were verified. Among them, 43 non-locals including six women were found staying without possessing mandatory ILP passes, the police added.

The Sekmai police took custody of the 43 ILP defaulters for taking up necessary legal action under the ILP regime.

The ILP was introduced in Manipur on January 1, 2020, making it the fourth state after Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram to bring in the requirement.

As per the norm, outsiders, including people from other parts of the country, must obtain ILP passes while visiting the state.
