Ukhrul: A joint team of Ukhrul Police, 35 Assam Rifles, the Forest Department, and the 6th Manipur Rifles carried out the destruction of poppy cultivation in the Phalee-Tora-Champhung Hill Range of Ukhrul district, Manipur on November 14 and 15, 2023. This is the third drive the joint team has carried out in the hill range to destroy poppy plants.

Sources informed that “on 14 November 2023, the joint team destroyed 16 hectares area of illicit poppy fields at Tora-Champhung Hill Range under Ukhrul district, Manipur. 20 huts were burned along with other infrastructures such as pipeline connections, fertilizers, salt, herbicide, pesticides, etc.”
On 15 November 2023, the joint team destroyed another 15 hectares area of poppy cultivation in the Phalee-Tora-Champhung Hill Range under Ukhrul district, Manipur. 25 huts were burned during the drive.

It is worth mentioning that on 7 November 2023, the joint team also destroyed 20 hectares area of poppy plantations.
The joint team has destroyed 51 hectares of illicit poppy fields to date.
