Imphal, April 20: A heavy security operation carried out early today has sparked tension in Heirok in Thoubal district of Manipur after seven individuals were arrested in a pre-dawn raid by combined security forces.
The operation, which began around 2:20 am near the YBC Club in Heirok Part III, was jointly conducted by the Thoubal police commando unit and various teams of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), including Sector QAT, Range Imphal QAT, and battalion-level QATs supported by the Rapid Action Force.
According to a police statement, the arrested individuals are suspected members of the banned militant outfit KCP (PWG).
The police claimed the raid was based on specific intelligence inputs and led to the seizure of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including an INSAS light machine gun, INSAS rifles, a carbine, an MA3 MK-11 rifle, and various calibers of ammunition.
They also recovered mobile phones, radio sets, uniform items, ID cards, propaganda materials, and two vehicles believed to be used by the accused, the police added.
