Ukhrul, August 14: The Principality of Cappadocia has affirmed its recognition of Naga peoples independence on August 14, 2025, the Naga Independence Day.
In a statement signed and issued by its Sovereign H R H Prince Rafael and Prime Minister HG Duke Gerhart, it stated that the Principality of Cappadocia had formally recognized the Naga declaration of independence, submitted to the United Nations 78 years ago, on August 14, 1947 affirming the Naga people’s right to self-determination.
The Naga people proclaimed their independence from any external authority, asserting their inherent right to determine their own political status and to pursue their economic, social, and cultural development – most notably, the Naga nation never acceded to India or Burma by “conquest” or “concession”, the statement read.

It stated that on May 16, 1951, a plebiscite was conducted among the Naga people, in which 99.9% expressed their desire for full independence from the occupying powers of India and Burma. Article 1(2) of the charter of the United Nations recognizes the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples. The Principality of Cappadocia recognized the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland/Nagalim as the legitimate sovereign authority of the Naga nation, it added.
It further mentioned that the ancestral lands of the Naga people, from time immemorial, encompass regions now within the Indian states of Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh, as well as the northwestern territories of Burma.
“On August 3, 2015, the Government of India and Naga representatives signed the Framework Agreement, in which the Government of India acknowledged the unique political history of the Naga nation and affirmed that the Naga people never joined the Indian union by”conquest or ‘concession’, committing both sides to peaceful relations as separate sovereign entities; and whereas, the Principality of Cappadocia recognizes the Naga-American council as the legitimate representative voice of the Naga people in the United States,” it stated.
It affirmed that the Principality of Cappadocia recognized the Naga people’s independence, in the spirit of peace, justice, and the rights of all people.
