Senapati, April 30: The proposed tripartite talks involving the Government of India, the Government of Manipur, and the United Naga Council (UNC), which were scheduled for April 2025, have been deferred.
This was confirmed in an official letter addressed to the UNC President by A.K. Mishra, Adviser for the North-East.
According to the letter, it had been mutually agreed during the previous round of talks held on January 30, 2025, to reconvene in April. However, due to “unavoidable circumstances,” the meeting could not take place as planned.
The Adviser expressed regret over the postponement and assured that the meeting will be rescheduled at a later date. The new date will be communicated to the United Naga Council in due course.
It is worth noting that the 13th round of tripartite talks was held in January 2025 at Senapati District Headquarters. The discussions focused on the UNC’s demand to roll back the creation of seven new districts in Manipur, which were notified by the state government on December 8, 2016. The UNC has been strongly opposing the decision, arguing that it was taken arbitrarily without consulting the Naga people. The state government’s move to bifurcate districts has been a longstanding point of contention, leading to repeated negotiations over the years.
