Ukhrul: Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition of Lok Sabha, arrived in Manipur’s western district of Jiribam today via Assam, following his visit to a relief camp at Fulertal on Monday.

Rahul Gandhi met refugees of Manipur violence at a relief camp in Fulertal, Assam, as per official sources.

Marking his third visit to the strife-torn state, Rahul Gandhi visited a relief camp at Jiribam Higher Secondary School, in Manipur. He visited violence-hit Manipur in June, 2023 and took stock of the situation in the State. Later in January this year, he had embarked his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ from Imphal.

During his visit, he met with victims, offering his support for the affected communities. He assessed the humanitarian situation and addressed the displaced people’s grievances, assuring them of his support and commitment to raising their issues in parliament.

Following his Jiribam visit, Rahul Gandhi’s flight landed at Imphal International Airport. He then headed to Churachandpur District, followed by planned visits to relief centers in Phubala and Moirang. Sources indicate that Rahul Gandhi will meet the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey later today.

After his one-day visit, he is expected to fly to Lucknow.

Prior to the high profile visit of Rahul Gandhi, an attack on security forces in Jiribam by heavily armed miscreants is reported. Earlier today, armed miscreants from Phaiton Village in Tamenglong District reprotedly opened fire towards Jiribam. Security forces retaliated, resulting in vehicle damage but no casualties. Two miscreants were apprehended.
