RIMS Hospital to Start Its First Kidney Transplant Soon

Imphal: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Imphal, is set to start kidney transplantation in the near future. The Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur, has granted permission to RIMS, Imphal, for performing organ/tissue retrieval/transplantation and banking of Kidney.

The government has issued a Certificate of Registration for the same dated 16 February and is valid for a period of 5 years from the date of issue. The registration has been accorded under Sections 14 and 15 of the Transplantation of Human Organs (Amendment), 2011.

RIMS Director Dr. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma stated that this will be of immense benefit to the people of Manipur as the institute will be able to perform these procedures at a reasonable rate. The doctors of RIMS Imphal will be trying their best to perform their first kidney transplant surgery soon, he said.
