Imphal, May 10: Students from the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, met with Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan on Saturday and submitted a memorandum highlighting their grievances. The Governor assured them that their safety, welfare, and academic concerns would be reviewed with the relevant authorities. He urged them to stay focused on their studies and maintain peace on campus.
Students from the MBBS, BDS, MLT, MRI, BASLP, and B.Sc Nursing programs have been protesting since Wednesday night, demanding the resignation of the RIMS Director, Dean, and Sub-Dean. They accuse the officials of making obscene remarks during a college event on April 24, harassing female students, imposing fines over a picnic on April 30, and ordering hostel evacuations. The protests, which prompted a police presence, continued the following day, with students warning of further agitation if their demands are not met.

Meanwhile, RIMS has issued a clarification, stating that disciplinary action was taken because students, including union leaders, defied warnings and skipped classes for the picnic. Punishments included a 15-day suspension, fines, and orders to stay home.
The Governor has promised appropriate action after examining all sides.
