Riotous mob burnt down high-profile tribal officer’s warehouse in Imphal

Imphal, June 16: A day after unidentified miscreants torched the residence of Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Dr RK Ranjan, located at Kongba at around 11 pm Thursday, in another outbreak of violence in the valley, a riotous mob burnt down a warehouse owned by a tribal family near Palace Compound in Imphal East District on Friday around 11 am. The property belonged to a retired high-profile IAS officer.

Police team led by Imphal East District Police Superintendent of Police managed to disperse the crowd using tear gas shells. Timely arrival of Manipur Fire Services Team and some locals put off the fire preventing from spreading to the neighboring houses.

However, riotous mob gathered again in the evening, according to sources.

Personnel of Rapid Acton Force (RAF), JAT regiment and Manipur police fired several rounds of tear gas shells and rubber bullets to disperse the mob.
