Rising Leader from the Hills: Joyson Kh Set to Become NSUI Manipur’s First Tribal President

Imphal: Manipur Congress President, Keisham Meghachandra felicitated Joyson Kh on being appointed as president of National Students’ Union of India, Manipur State yesterday at his office chamber, Congress Bhawan, Imphal. The appointment was initiated by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal in the gleeful night of August 13.

Joyson Kh from the Poumai Naga tribe is the first tribal President of NSUI from Manipur hills. A young dynamic man whose resilience as a determined student leader and champion of democratic advocacy proves dreams can be manifested into a reality. Joyson Kh hails from Koide Makha village in Senapati District. Born into a middle-class family with five siblings, Joyson Kh sets a benchmark for those who dream to go the extra mile. Speaking to the media, Joyson credits his rural upbringing and values of sharing and caring for shaping his personality and confident demeanour. He also praised God for the gift of leadership that he is setting out.

A look back at his credentials, Joyson became the Convenor of NSUI North East Unit, Delhi in 2018. In 2021, he was appointed General Secretary of NSUI, Manipur State, showcasing his team management skills and executing state-wide programs. A graduate of PGDAV College, University of Delhi, he served as NESSDU Social and Cultural Secretary, Co-convenor of Kalkaji Campus, DU, coordinating student activities and events. The achievement track record did not stop him from climbing greater heights as he went on to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at LMS Law College, Dhanamanjuri University, Manipur. With a strong academic background in Arts and Law, and experiences in student organisations, he is poised to take NSUI to greater heights.

“Communities cannot be sustained solely by financial support; they need leadership and organization,” he said talking to this Correspondent.

“NSUI is not merely a body, it is the oldest student body in India – the future of the nation’s youths, and the voice of the youths. The policy of today will substantially impact our youth, who will be the pillars of tomorrow,” he said. Joyson further defines NSUI as an organization reaching out to the grassroots, engaging students, promoting political literacy, democratic values, and awareness of citizens’ rights. His focus areas encompass a grail of inclusivity, transparency and accountability in governance and in promoting communal harmony.

Joyson Kh stint as the Vice Presidential in Koide Youth and Students Organization (KYSO) in 2023 exhibited his quality of leadership working in the grassroots level in rural India. Under his leadership, he conducted cleanliness drives and raised awareness about local governance and decentralisation. Owing to his discipline and faithfulness towards serving people of the society, he began to march forward in taking the role of the Vice President of Manipur NSUI from 2023. As a promising and visionary leader, who in the certitude of many, is set to become a central figure in Manipur’s politics in the coming years. He also expressed hope that his leadership will bridge communities and facilitate an amicable solution.
