UT News Service | IMPHAL, Aug 21: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Friday submitted a copy of expulsion of one its sitting MLAs from the primary membership of the party.
RK Imo Singh, who was elected on Congress ticket, was expelled on Thursday from the party for six years for allegedly violating the party constitution.
A statement of the MPCC signed by its general secretary (administration) Hareshwar Goshwami stated that RK Imo has ceased to be a primary member of the Indian National Congress (INC) with immediate effect. He was expelled on the recommendation of the MPCC Disciplinary Action Committee, it added.
Imo who is the son of former Congress leader and former chief minister Late RK Jaichandra is also the son-in-law of present chief minister N Biren Singh. Imo was one of the two sitting Congress MLAs who were served show cause notices after they cross-voted in favour of the BJP nominee during the election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Manipur held in June last.
With the expulsion of RK Imo, the Congress has now17 MLAs now.
