Imphal, March 15: The Rongmei Naga Council, Manipur (RNC-M) imposed a 12-hour total shutdown under its jurisdiction today in protest against the March 14 incident regarding the act of the 6th Assam Rifles at Atengba village (Makuai), Tamenglong district.
The shutdown affected normal life from 12 noon to 6 pm in Noney district and Tamenglong district.

According to the RNC-M, there was a tussle between the villagers and the troopers of the Assam Rifles as the villagers did not like the act of the Assam Rifles. Following the tussle, the Assam Rifles resorted to indiscriminate firing, the RNC-M alleged. The Rongmei body also condemned it. But the RNC-M did not mention the reasons for the tussle between the villagers and the 6th Assam Rifles.

The RNC-M then said it entrusted the Rongmei Naga Youth Organisation, Manipur (RNYO-M) to impose the shutdown. The shutdown was carried out between 12 noon and 6 pm today.Students appearing for examinations, medical, electricity and fire services and “marriage and religious duties” were exempted from the purview of the shutdown.
