Miscreants with sophisticated weapons looted over 2.5 lakh from a petrol pump known as Highway Carrier Center in Ri-Bhoi district located at 14 Mile near Byrnihat in Meghalaya on January 7.

Police said the incident took place at around 5:30 pm, where the armed miscreants carrying a sophisticated AK-47 rifle and one 9mm pistol came by a 220 Pulsar red and black bike barged into the manager’s cabin and looted the petrol pump.

The petrol pump was owned by one Paul Kiesing Nongrum of Shillong and C.L Sethia, the police added.

It was known that the two miscreants, who were about to flee from the scene saw another petrol pump staff with sale money. They snatched the money from him and fled, the police also said.

Meanwhile, the CCTV footage showed that one of the miscreants carrying an AK-47 had covered his face with a muffler while the other was wearing a helmet.

However, due to the low resolution of CCTV footage, the registration number of the bike couldn’t be obtained.

An FIR has been filed by the Byrnihat police and the investigation is on, the police added.
