S.A. Ramnganing to Contest for Tangkhul Naga Long Presidential Election

Ukhrul, April 28: The Tangkhul Naga Long Presidential Election for the tenure 2024-2028 will be held on May 22, 2024.

Former Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL) President, S.A. Ramnganing, has declared his candidacy for the forthcoming presidential election of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), the apex customary body of the Tangkhul community. He stated that his goal is to unify Tangkhul villages, which he believes are losing their sense of brotherhood and unity due to divisions among them.

S.A. Ramnganing, who is also the chief of Marangphung village, expressed concern over the declining unity among Tangkhul villages while speaking to the media during an interview on the sidelines of his official blessing ceremony held in Ukhrul town on Sunday.

He emphasized the crucial role of TNL in restoring the customary spirit of unity and solidarity prevalent among the ancestors.

In the past, TNL was highly respected by elders as the foundation of Tangkhul society due to its integrity. However, Ramnganing lamented that today, despite advancements in education and knowledge, the society is experiencing a decline in moral and social values, resulting in division.

S.A. Ramnganing mentioned that driven by these concerns, he has resolved to run for the TNL presidential election to tackle the challenges facing the community and salvage its future.

He called on all Tangkhul brethren to support his vision and mission of revitalizing society by adhering strictly to the TNL constitution, restoring its olden glory as exemplified by the elders.

S.A. Ramnganing identified the prevalence of selfish interests as a cause of distrust and disunity among neighboring villages. He pledged to find solutions to existing conflicts and replace them with a spirit of love and unity, paving the way for peaceful and meaningful coexistence in modern civilized society.

On the other hand, a prayer of blessings for Sword Vashum (Retd. IAAS), an intending candidate for the post of President TNL, was held on Sunday at Talui Baptist Church. It is also learned that Yangmi Khapai and Vareishang Zingkhai have also declared to contest for the TNL Presidential election.

“Nominations papers will be issued on May 6 and 7, 2024. The last date for submission has been fixed on May 14, 2024, and scrutiny of the nomination papers will be taken up on May 16, 2024. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is being fixed on May 18, 2024, and a public platform will be given on May 21, 2024. Polling day will be held on May 22, 2024,” stated the election schedule given out by the Chief Election Commissioner of Tangkhul Naga Long dated April 22, 2024.
