Dimapur: Former chief minister and former Governor Dr SC Jamir has been conferred Padma Bhushan. On being conferred the prestigious award to veteran personality of Nagaland, many have expressed happiness and congratulated Dr SC Jamir.

Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio, deputy chief minister Y Patton, Rising People’s Party (RPP) and many others have congratulated Dr. SC Jamir for being conferred with Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award, by the Republic of India. “It’s a proud moment for all Nagas,” said the RPP.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Neiphiu Rio stated, “Congratulations, Dr SC Jamir on being awarded with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award, for exceptional and distinguished service in the field of public affairs. I wish you the very best in all your endeavours”.

In a statement, the Rising People’s Party said that Dr. Jamir’s contribution in politics is without parallel – member of the Interim Body, signatory of the 16- Point Agreement, first Lok Sabha member of the state, 5 time Chief Minister, Rajya Sabha member, and Governor of 4 states at various periods.

“Despite what his detractors say, Dr. SC Jamir’s name is etched in history. His legacy is guaranteed in the annals of history and the Rising People’s Party wishes him a long life,” the statement added.
