Dr Sarangthem Ibomcha Singh awarded Chief of Army Staff Commendation 2026

Ukhrul: In a moment of pride for the state of Manipur, Dr Sarangthem Ibomcha Singh, an IPS officer, has been conferred with the prestigious Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Commendation 2026.

He is currently serving as the Commandant of the 6th Indian Reserve Battalion and Superintendent of Police, Special Commando Unit, Manipur. This was officially announced on January 15 in connection with the Army Day 2026 celebrations, underscoring his exemplary service and leadership in the state’s elite police and commando units.


Singh originally joined as a member of the Manipur Police Service (MPS) and was later empanelled in the UPSC Select List for 2024. He was later promoted to the Indian Police Service (IPS) in December 2025. Singh also served as the Superintendent of Police,Thoubal district and Additional Superintendent of Police in Moreh and Tengnoupal.

Over the years of his service, Singh has also received several prestigious recognitions, including Police Medal for Gallantry Award 2009, Manipur DGP Commendation & Disc and Chief Minister’s Trophy for Anti-Drug Campaign 2020.

Congratulating on the well-deserved honour, the state government stated, “This prestigious recognition reflects his exemplary leadership, unwavering commitment and outstanding service to national security.”
