Ukhrul: In a bid to empower women entrepreneurs and bolster economic independence, the Socio-Economic Action Trust (SEAT) and Friends of Women’s World Banking (FWWB) joined forces to organize a One-Day Mela Cum Trade Exhibition at Town Hall, Ukhrul Headquarters on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024.
The event, part of their ‘Nurturing Women Entrepreneurship Programme,’ aimed to provide enterprising women with a platform to showcase their products and gain significant market exposure. Tennyson Kazingmei, Managing Trustee of SEAT, inaugurated the program, emphasizing the importance of women’s economic empowerment and encouraging collaboration with SEAT.

Featuring 150 women entrepreneurs from Kamjong and Ukhrul districts, the exhibition showcased a diverse array of products, including traditional shawls, bamboo-made baskets, pickles, jewelry, bread, fruits, and locally produced vegetables. Tamyaola Pheirei of the Chuimeirin Federation highlighted the event’s role in empowering their federation financially and fostering camaraderie among women entrepreneurs.
Prior to the exhibition, participants underwent a comprehensive weeklong training session on Financial Education and Business Management (FEBMS), equipping them with essential skills in saving, budgeting, record-keeping, and digital banking and social media utilization. Additionally, specialized skill training in food processing, baking, soap making, basket weaving, and tailoring was provided to enhance product quality and competitiveness.

By providing financial resources, mentorship, and training opportunities, SEAT and FWWB have enabled women entrepreneurs to overcome challenges and contribute meaningfully to their families and communities. The organizations remain committed to supporting these entrepreneurs by facilitating market linkages and creating sustainable growth opportunities within the district.
The exhibition not only celebrated the achievements of women entrepreneurs but also highlighted the significance of empowering women for economic self-reliance. SEAT and FWWB’s collaborative efforts underscore their dedication to fostering women’s entrepreneurship and driving socio-economic development at the grassroots level.
