UKHRUL: The body of the second tourist from Kerala was retrieved close to the accident site at Sela Lake in Tawang district, Arunachal Pradesh.

According to officials, the man identified as Mahadev M(24) was part of a seven-member tourist group visiting Tawang. The first body identified as Dinu(26) was found on Friday. The bodies were recovered following an intensive joint search operation carried out by the Indian Army, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Arunachal Pradesh police.

The tragedy occurred on Friday when one member of the group reportedly slipped into the water, prompting Dinu (26) and Mahadev to jump in to rescue him. While the third tourist managed to get out safely, the two were swept away by the icy waters of the lake and drowned.

Superintendent of Police DW Thongon said the authorities have put up cautionary signage across Sela Lake and surrounding tourist spots, advising visitors to stay off frozen surfaces. He further stated that the district administration had circulated safety alerts in December, highlighting that ice formation on high-altitude lakes is unpredictable and potentially life-threatening.
