Imphal: In the continuing ‘war on drugs’ campaign, Kakching police at 11:20 am Monday seized 1.090 kg of suspected Heroin no. 4 powder from one Maruti Suzuki Brezza (Maroon inncolour) vehicle bearing Registration Number MN02B-1095. Kakching police said eighty nine soap cases containing the drugs was found concealed inside the fuel tank and the right side panel below the body of the vehicle.
Two persons were arrested and vehicle and suspected drugs were seized. They are identified as Manglalmuon Gangte (35) S/o Paoneimang Gangte of Moreh ward no. 2, Mission veng, Tengnoupal District and Houminsem Singsong (25) S/o Henkhogin Singson of Zalenphai village, Moreh, Tengnoupal.
In another case, Manipur’s Kangpokpi district have recovered 2.25 kg of brown sugar worth over Rs 34.13 lakh in the local market from two alleged drug peddlers. The arrested persons have been identified as Paotinmang of Tengnoupal district and P Saharii of Senapati district. Parading the arrested persons along with the recovered drugs before the media today, superintendent of police of Kangpokpi district, Amrita Sinha said they were apprehended by a team of the district police who were on frisking and checking duty along NH-2 in front of Kangpokpi police station on Saturday. She also said that the police team stopped a Bolero for checking on suspicion. Upon checking, four packets of brown sugar were found in the vehicle.

The police officer estimated the value of the seized drug to Rs 34.13 lakh in the local market. She added that action has been initiated against the two arrested persons after registering a case under ND&PS Act at Kangpokpi police station.
They were produced in the court of Kangpokpi chief judicial magistrate on Sunday and took them to police custody for 10 days, the police officer informed.
Yet, in another operation, police in Bishnupur district on Monday confiscated 11.30 kg of opium from the possessions of three women, police said. The apprehended women have been identified as Naikhohin Haolai of Ukhrul district, Lingjalam Hangsing and Hekim Hangsing of Kangpokpi district, according to police.
A police commando team attached with the Bishnupur district police apprehended the three women acting on specific information passed by the authority of the 31 Assam Rifles.
Based on the information, the police commandos conducted an intensified frisking and checking along the Tidim Road (Imphal-Churachandpur Road) in front of the Bishnupur police station today morning, around 6.30 am, police also said.
They stopped a Tata Winger with three women on board in a very suspicious manner. They were called out of the vehicle and conducted body searches with the assistance of the female police personnel, police further said.
During the body search, 4.22kg of opium packed in eight polythene bags recovered from the possession of Naikhohin Haolai, 3.52 kg from the possession of Lingjalam Hangsing and 3.51kg from Hekim Hangsing, police added.
The police further recovered Rs 19,840 in cash from the possessions of the three women.
The apprehended women along with the confiscated contraband item were handed over to Bishnupur district police, police further added.
