Kohima: Sharingain Longkumer was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Fourteenth Nagaland Legislative Assembly today.

An official statement said, “In accordance with Rule 7(3) of the Rules of Procedures and Conduct of Business in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Fourteenth Nagaland Legislative Assembly.”

Meanwhile, the first session of the 14 Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) began today at the NLA Secretariat in Kohima. Protem Speaker, Mhathung Yanthan administered the oath-taking to 59 Members of the NLA, elected to the 14th NLA. 

Mhathung Yanthan was earlier administered the oath as the Protem Speaker by the Governor of Nagaland on March 9, 2023. Out of the 60 Members, 29 are new members and 31 are returning members.
