Shirui Village Celebrates Cultural Day with Message of Peace and Unity

Ukhrul, May 22: The cultural day of Shirui Village celebrated under the theme “Day of Peace, Harmony and Unity” was successfully organised at Heritage Centre, Vangayan, Shirui.

Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly attended the occasion as chief guest. The Speaker was accompanied by Thokchom Radheshyam, Luorempam Rameshwar, Kh. Raghumani Singh, Khongkham Robindro, Tongbram Robindro and Sheikh Noorul Hassan.

Thokchom Satyaprada Singh in his speech narrated about his adventure back in the 90s, where he made an attempt to climb the Shirui Peak. “It was an arduous climb, I had to give up midway. But one day, I hope I will take the challenge” stated Thokchom Satyaprada Singh.

He also suggested for a possible way where the Shirui Lily Festival can be celebrated in the future without depending on funds from the government. He calls for unity and early restoration of peace in Manipur.

Thokchom Radheshyam in his speech stated that “Nothing is permanent except change. The hopes and expectations of the younger generation have been completely shattered. We are all responsible for that. Let this festival connect every citizen of Manipur. May we also retrospect ourselves in bringing peace in Manipur at the earliest. We need a strong and united Manipur, that is the desire for everyone of us. It is our responsibility to bring that love, peace and harmony which have been missing for a long time be restored at the earliest.”

Sheikh Noorul Hassan in his speech calls for peaceful coexistence among the various communities. “Our society thrives when all the community lives together in peaceful coexistence. Let us break the wall of mistrust for bringing peace in Manipur. Let this event be a reminder that we are stronger when we are united. Together we can heal. Together we are Manipur.”

The Shirui Lily Grand Prix stole the heart of everyone who came to witness the indigenous “thing-gari race at the base of the Shirui Peak.

Special performance by renowned Tangkhul singers Shimreingam Horam, Winso Chamroy and Yuileichan Mahongnao added more colours to the celebration.
