CHURACHANDPUR: Churachandpur District Police organised a one-day initiative under its ‘Friends of Police’ programme on Wednesday, allowing six students to take charge of the Superintendent of Police (SP) and Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of different police units across the district.
The programme, which culminated at the District Police Headquarters (DHQ), Churachandpur, aimed to familiarise students with the functioning of the police force while encouraging leadership, discipline and a sense of responsibility among young people.
The student officers were selected through an interaction programme and essay-writing competition held on October 31, 2026, as part of the observance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day), commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The selection process also provided students an opportunity to share their perspectives on policing, leadership and public service.
Organised under the supervision of Churachandpur SP Prakhar Pandey, IPS, and his staff, the initiative saw Miss Isabel Hoilungnem of Class X, VK Tawna High School, designated as SP for a Day. Five other students were assigned as OCs of different police units.
Kailunlal of Rostad Memorial High School was assigned as OC of Churachandpur Police Station, while Liantansiam of Suangdoh High School took charge as OC of Singngat Police Station. Liantansang Guite of Agape High School was designated OC of Sangaikot Police Station, Elvina Nomneilam of St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School as OC of the Women Police Station, and Genlalmuansiam of Rostad Memorial High School as OC of Traffic Control Police.

The students were picked up from their respective residences in the morning and reported to their assigned units, where they participated in the morning fall-in parade and conducted patrolling. They also interacted with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to discuss ways to improve police-public relations, visited important offices within their respective jurisdictions and held Sainik Sammelans with police personnel to discuss welfare and service-related issues and hear their grievances.
The student officers were also introduced to official records and given the opportunity to inspect various office files as part of their exposure to routine police administration.
Meanwhile, the Student SP interacted with members of the press and media at her office chamber before chairing a meeting with the five Student OCs and senior police officers at the SP Conference Hall, DHQ. The meeting covered various aspects of police administration and functioning, with the student OCs presenting their observations and reports from their respective assignments. She also assured that the grievances brought forward during the meeting would be looked into and encouraged the student officers to remain committed to their assigned responsibilities.
During her interaction with the media, Hoilungnem, who appeared nervous but determined, said that her ambition was to become a doctor, specifically a cardiologist.

Asked about her priorities as SP for a Day, she said she wanted the public to understand that the police force’s role extended beyond public perception, with its priorities including crime prevention, curbing drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and welfare of the people.
She also raised concerns over underage driving and the sale of drugs to students, stating that she had personally come across several drug peddlers in Lamka town.
Following the meeting, the student officers and senior police personnel attended a high tea at the SP’s residence before returning to their respective police stations and offices to continue their assigned duties. They were later dropped off at their homes at the end of the programme.
The initiative provided the students with first-hand exposure to police administration, leadership, public interaction and operational responsibilities. The District Police said the programme reflected its commitment to engaging young people and strengthening police-public relations through community-oriented initiatives.
