Sportspersons holds rally in Imphal, calls for restoration of peace

Imphal, June 3: Sportspersons of Manipur on Saturday carried out a peace rally in Imphal, calling for restoration of peace and harmony in the state.

The rally organized by Manipur Olympic Association kicked off from Manipur Olympic Bhavan at Khuman Lampak in Imphal and marched on the streets before concluding at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.

Hundreds of sportspersons including international and national players of various disciplines, coaches and veteran sportspersons took part in the rally which was marched with a tight security arrangement by the police.

“We are proud of being Manipuris”, “We want peace”, “Restore peace in Manipur”, “Stop violence immediately”, etc. read the placards displayed during the rally.

Atleast 98 people lost their lives and 310 others were injured in the chain of violence in the state that broke out a month ago as per the latest government report.

A total of 37,450 people are in 272 relief camps at present and altogether 4,014 cases of arson have been reported so far.
