Chandel, April 22: As celebrated across the globe, St. Joseph’s High School, Chandel also observed the Earth Day on Tuesday at the school’s premises with students and staff of the school pledging to protect the earth and carrying out a bottle plantation.
As part of the celebration, students and staff of the school pledged on the ‘Earth Anthem’ by Abhay Kumar to stand united as flora and fauna, as species of one earth. “Our cosmic oasis, cosmic blue pearl, The most beautiful planet in the universe, All the people and the nations of the world, All for one and one for all, United we unfurl the blue marble flag, Black, brown, white, different colours We are humans, the earth is our home,” the school pledged.

The school also observed the Earth Day by way of bottle plantation with a belief that this initiative will help the planet earth.

The planet earth has undergone many unprecedented challenges like climate change, pollution, deforestation, which is very stark, loss of lives due to floods, earthquakes, forest fires, Alfred said. Expressing concerns over such unnatural calamities, he appealed to everyone to take a conscious effort to help mother earth, to reverse the calamities and have a better earth to live in.
Abhay Kumar, Deputy Director General, Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), author of the Earth Anthem, extending his greetings to the school as they observe the Earth Day. He also recited his anthem as part of the greetings.
As part of the observation and the bottle plantation, every student of the school brought with them plants of different varieties to the school which will later be transplanted to various areas.
