IMPHAL: The Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) protested Monday demanding the removal of the vice chancellor of Manipur University for alleged “maladministration and irregularities”.
The protesting students attempted to march to the office of the vice chancellor but their attempt was foiled by the security forces.
The students accused the vice chancellor of indulging in “illegal job recruitment practices”.

Speaking to media at the protest site, Kangleipak Students’ Association president Seram Hemjit condemned the silence of the Ministry of Education (MoE), the chief rector, and the visitor of the university, accusing them of failing to act despite serious allegations. The vice chancellor is also accused of running Manipur University in an arbitrary manner by appointing non-teaching staff, violating norms, and tarnishing the university’s reputation.
The student body then demanded that a high level inquiry into the issue be done so that transparency and accountability in the functioning of the university administration are restored.

Warning of intensified agitation if their demands are ignored, the student body urged the central authorities to intervene immediately in order to safeguard the academic integrity and credibility of Manipur University.
“The student organisation then said it will continue the agitation until the vice chancellor is removed from office.
