Four Injured as Suspected Arambai Tenggol Members Clash with UNLF(P) Cadres in Imphal

Ukhrul, Mar 23: A late-night clash between suspected Arambai Tenggol (AT) members and UNLF(P) cadres shook Imphal East on Saturday, leaving four injured. The confrontation at Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai saw an exchange of gunfire and physical assault, forcing security forces to intervene swiftly.

According to reports, around 15-20 unidentified persons, suspected to be from Arambai Tenggol, stormed the residence of Irengbam Nandakumar Singh alias Tonsana (56), an alleged functionary of UNLF(P), near Kongpal Thong. A fight broke out, and four UNLF(P) cadres sustained blunt injuries from sticks and other objects. There were also reports of a few rounds of gunfire from both sides.

Security forces rushed to the spot immediately and detained the four injured UNLF(P) cadres, who were taken to a hospital for treatment. They are reported to be stable and did not suffer any gunshot injuries.

Following the clash, security forces launched a raid on the office of Arambai Tenggol Unit-17 at Khurai under Porompat Police Station. During the operation, several incriminating items were seized, including hunting boots, bulletproof jackets, a bulletproof helmet, camouflage clothing, tactical gear, wireless handsets, a tear gas smoke shell, bayonets, swords, used cartridges, a live round, and a substance suspected to be heroin. Security forces also recovered banners and letterheads linked to AT.

Authorities are investigating the incident, and security has been heightened in the area to prevent further escalation.
