Imphal: Ningmareo Shimray, an award-winning lecturer from Ukhrul District, gave an extensive talk on “Development of the Concept of Syllables and its Application” at Manipur University organized by the Department of teacher education, Manipur University on March 26.
Ningmareo Shimray is known for his dedication to teaching and his desire to keep learning. He is always on the lookout for newer and better techniques to make learning as simple and easy as possible for students. With that in mind, he developed a new strategy for teaching and learning mathematics for Classes I to XII.
He conducted a series of experiments and discovered a new number system known as the “Bi-Quartet Number System and development of the Concept of Sub-syllables.”
In his talk with students, Shimray added that the main failure of education in our place according to his experience is system failure. Picking handwriting as an example, he stressed the importance and briefly elaborated on the advantages of good handwriting and encouraged the students to learn cursive to develop both speed and uniformity in writing.
He then emphasized the proper pronunciation of the “th” “sh” sound in the English language.
Shimray previously disclosed in his felicitation program that he is set to release his two books on mathematics and pronunciation. The books are – “New Strategy of Learning and Teaching of Mathematics” for Classes I to XII where his new number system “Bi-quartet number system and its applications” are enclosed and “A New Strategy of Learning English Pronunciation: Cracking the Code of English Pronunciation”.
Ningmareo, ever since he was a young boy, has always been keen on imparting knowledge. He started giving home tuitions while he was in Class-X.
In 2007, he was appointed as a science graduate teacher at Model Government High School, Ukhrul and was promoted to lecturer in 2019. Later he was posted to Ukhrul Higher Secondary School in 2020. He was awarded the National Teacher Award in 2021.
