Tamenglong: Mass tree plantation ahead of World Environment Day

Tamenglong: Pre World Environment Day celebration kicked off at Tamenglong District headquarters with mass tree plantation drive at Gadai Hill at the catchment area of the water reservoir.

The event was organised by The Rainforest Club Tamenglong in collaboration with District Administration, Tamenglong, Tamenglong Forest Division and The Corbett Foundation.

Mass tree plantation was headed by local MLA Janghemlung Panmei as chief guest, RFO, Tamenglong Forest Division, Hitler Singh, Rohit Anand, SDO, Tamenglong, Paul Nangsha, SDO, Tousem, Dr Chambo Gonmei, Honorary Wildlife Warden and Advisor to RCT as guest of honours. Ex-ADC members other social workers were also present in the plantation drive. Students from Good Shepherd School, Baptist Youth Fellowship, Town Fellowship, Evangelical Union, Tamenglong, Khoupilong Youth Club, Taudai Colours and other social organisation participated in the event.

Chief guest in his short speech encouraged the people of Tamenglong to do more plantation of trees. mentioned the importance of protecting trees in the catchment areas of the water reservoir for water resources.

In his encouragement speech, MLA Janghemlung Panmei mentioned the World Environment Day theme ‘Only One Earth’ as an appropriate theme for today’s scenario in Tamenglong and the District is in need of replenishment of trees and forest. This pre event of mass tree plantation was conducted in preparation for main event of World Environment Day that will be celebrated on June 5 at the District headquarters.
