Tamenglong: The Joint Tribe Council (Zeme, Liangmei, Rongmei & Inpui) organised a peace rally in Tamenglong today. The rally started from Haipou Jadonang Memorial Park to Apollo Bazaar, Tamenglong headquarters. All shops were closed and movements of vehicle were halted during the rally. No news of untoward incidence was reported.
A public gathering was held before the rally started at Haipou Jadonang Memorial Park.
In the gathering, JTC Convenor, Ramkung Pamei said that the reason for organising the rally was not against investigation of Athuan Abonmai murder case, but it was carried out to ensure that there should be no harm done to the civilians in the process of investigation.
Ramkung Pamei also expressed appreciation to the security personnel for restraining from harming the public. He also said, “we need to have voices from the public and for this reason this peace rally is being organised”, adding that the JTC met with military officials.
During the gathering, JTC mourned the lost of leader, Athuan Abonmai, Former President Zeliangrong Baudi, and supported the efforts to bring justice to his death. However, at the same time, there’s a sense of escalating issue that can disturb normally, JTC cautioned. “That should not happen, rather peace should not be broken,” JTC said. It also added, “There are people who want to take advantage of the incident to bring disunity among the Nagas.”
The JTC also submitted a memorandum to chief minister of Manipur today demanding to defuse tension created by heavy deployment of security forces in Tamenglong. JTC said it supports the ongoing investigation on the matter, however public can not be victimized.
