Ukhrul: The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has expressed strong discontent over the cancellation of the SSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) 2024 exam centre in Ukhrul, citing an unfounded claim of “law and order” concerns.

TKS clarifies that Ukhrul district, home to the Tangkhul Naga community, remains peaceful and unaffected by the ethnic conflict in Manipur.

“This has been confirmed by the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul in a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Manipur, requesting the reinstatement of the SSC exam centre in Ukhrul, while assuring that the district is secure,” stated TKS in its press statement issued on Friday.

TKS further pointed out that “Ukhrul, being a law-abiding district, has successfully conducted other major exams such as CAT, JEE, etc., without any issues. Furthermore, a team from the Railway Department/Ministry has inspected the exam centre in Ukhrul for upcoming railway exams, and the process is ongoing. The cancellation of the exam centre in Ukhrul, on the grounds of alleged law and order issues, seems unjustified, especially considering that the district has arguably been the most peaceful in the state. Therefore the Saklong appeals the kind intervention of the concern authority to reinstate the exam centre in Ukhrul SSC (CGL)2024 in interest of student community.”

The Tangkhul apex student body then questioned why Imphal, a region involved in ethnic conflict, is deemed more peaceful than Ukhrul for exams. TKS has condemned the discriminatory treatment against Ukhrul students and warn that the Tangkhul Naga community will not remain silent.

The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong has vowed to take all necessary steps to ensure their rights to dignity and equal treatment are upheld.
