Tangkhul lad shines at 19th Rubaru Mr India

Ukhrul: Lummi Shangchiri of Khangkhui Khullen village, Ukhrul who represented Manipur state was conferred ‘Rubaru Mr India Brand Ambassador -2023’ title and the ‘Healthy Skin’ award at the 19th edition of Rubaru Mr India 2023 on 5th August at the India’s biggest men’s pageant.

The grand finale was held at Bogmaloo beach resort in Goa. The 22-year-old youth Lummi Shangchari was the second person after Songashim Rungsung from Ukhrul district to won the title at National level in the men’s pageant contest, showcasing the festive costume of the Tangkhul Naga tribe.

Speaking to this correspondent, Lummi Shangchari said two others along with his friend Reshap Chettri represented Manipur at the National level male pageant contest.

Reshap also won the title ‘Model International’ and sub-title ‘Best runway model.’ He added that the state level competition was held on 31st March at Classic Grande, Imphal. Out of 9 contestants, he and Reshap Chettri were selected at the event to represent at National male pageant competition.

He informed that Shillong based company sponsored him, and underwent intensive preparation for one and half month at Dimapur, Nagaland. 32 contestants from different states of India vied for 18 titles of Rubaru Mr India -2023 that was held from 2nd-5th of August at Goa.

Rubaru Mr India contest is learnt to have 12 international male titles, one Brand Ambassador and Zonal title in the pageant competition.

Lummi’s entire collection of wardrobe for the competition was hand woven traditional clothes of Tangkhul. Currently based in Imphal, pursuing his final year in Geography in DM College.

Lummi is the son of (Late) David Shangchiri and Paishola Shangchiri from Khangkhui Khullen village, Ukhrul, Manipur and is a strong advocate of healthy living to free from substance abuse.

Lummi is looking forward for international event competition in the upcoming years. As a Brand Ambassador he will be working in motivating youth of the North East in maintaining their physique, raise awareness and campaign against drugs further educate on health benefit in collaboration with Mr. Rubaru.

Meanwhile Youth chairman of Khangkhui Khullen village M. Kasar extended warmest congratulations to the village youth for bringing laurel at the national level.

It is worth noting that a 22-year-old Banner Lanamai James from Manipur’s Senapati district also bagged the first Rubaru Mr India Youth Icon 2022 on Wednesday evening.
