Tata Group Announces ₹1 Crore Ex-Gratia for Families of AI-171 Victims

Ukhrul, June 12: The Tata Group has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident involving Air India Flight 171, which crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on Thursday.

In a statement issued by N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, the conglomerate conveyed its heartfelt condolences and announced substantial relief measures for the victims and their families.

“We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171,” the statement read. “No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured.”

As a part of the immediate relief effort, the Tata Group has committed to providing ₹1 crore to the families of each person who lost their life in the tragedy. Furthermore, the company will cover the medical expenses of the injured and ensure they receive the necessary care and support.

In addition to these measures, Tata Group also pledged to assist in the reconstruction and development of the hostel at B J Medical College, underlining its commitment to support the broader community affected by the disaster.

“We remain steadfast in standing with the affected families and communities during this unimaginable time,” said Chandrasekaran, emphasizing the group’s long-standing values of compassion and social responsibility.

Air India flight AI-171, operating from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, met with an accident and crashed shortly after take-off earlier Thursday from Ahmedabad. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 13:38 hours, carrying 242 passengers and crew members, as per official sources.

Of the total onboard, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese nationals, and 1 Canadian national, Air India said.
