Teachers urge Meghalaya Governor to intervene in their salary woes

Frustrated at the response from the state government of Meghalaya over the delay in the release of their pending stories, the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has approached the Governor, Satya Pal Malik to seek his intervention into the matter.

In a letter sent to the Governor through the Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills, Swapnil Tembe, the AGHSSASTA informed that the teachers are yet to be paid for months.

In the complaint, the teachers said that they have not been paid since June this year and have made numerous complaints to the authorities to seek the early release of their pending dues, without any positive results.

“We requested the authorities in August to release the dues. The government through a verbal statement promised to release our salaries once the PAB for 20-21 was released. The PAB has been released but our situation remains the same,” said the teachers.

The teachers further asserted that SSA teachers across the country were being paid regular salaries but in their case, the situation was different.

“When the project is similar across the country, why is there a difference in the regularity of payment of salaries? We have been suffering economically, physically and mentally over the issue of our salary delay,” stated the teachers.
