UKHRUL: Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has condemned the killing of three Meitei civilians near Khongban Sunurok (Khongbal), close to Khamenlok in Kangpokpi district, on Monday and demanded the prosecution of Jangboi Kipgen, identified by the organisation as the home secretary of KNF(P).
TIM alleged that suspected Kuki armed militants operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement carried out the attack on villagers collecting firewood.
According to the TIM, around 16 villagers came under fire from assailants wearing red ribbons and carrying sophisticated firearms, who were allegedly positioned behind a pile of cut firewood.
TIM alleged that the killings were part of a continuing pattern of violence across Manipur, citing previous incidents at Koutruk, Uyokching, Litan and along the Imphal–Tamenglong road. It accused Kipgen of exercising unified command over Kuki militant groups operating in Kangpokpi district, including groups associated with the SoO agreement. These allegations could not be independently verified.
It further claimed that around 100 civilians had been killed in violence-related incidents since the beginning of 2026 and alleged that perpetrators had not been brought to justice. It called for accountability in cases involving killings allegedly recorded and circulated on social media.
TIM also accused political leaders of shielding armed groups and criticised the state government for failing to take effective measures to prevent killings and prosecute those responsible. The allegations against the individuals named in the release were not independently verified.
Expressing concern over escalating Kuki–Naga violence and renewed tensions between Kuki and Meitei communities, TIM warned that continued attacks and the absence of accountability could trigger further bloodshed.
TIM then demanded the immediate booking and prosecution of Kipgen and all those responsible for the Khamenlok killings. It also urged the state government to take decisive action to protect civilians, warning that the government should resign if it could not ensure public safety.
