The 6th Hill District Sports Meet, 2021-22 Edition Kicks Off at Chandel District

Chandel: The opening ceremony of the 6th Hill District Sports Meet 2021-22 organised by Hill District Sports Association Manipur (HIDSAM) in collaboration with District Sports Association (DSA) Chandel begins at sports complex, Chandel Christian village, Chandel on Tuesday. Miss Tongsin Shanghman moderated the session and Rev. Jasha Shemvar invoked God’s blessing upon the 6th HIDSAM edition, 2021-2022.

6 hill districts namely Chandel, Churachanpur, Sadar Hills, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul are participating the prestigious hill districts sports confluence. Girls volleyball and boys football are the two games of the event. In girls volleyball, Chandel, Senapati, Ukhrul are in pool A while Tamenglong, Churachanpur and Sadar Hills are in Pool B. In the boys football, Sadar Hills, Tamenglong, Ukhrul are in Pool A while Churachanpur, Chandel and Senapati are in Pool B. More than 200 players and staff including team managers are participating as per DSA Chandel source.

The opening ceremony was attended by deputy commissioner Chandel, Mayanglambam Rajkumar IAS as chief guest and President Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) Rd. David Boyes as functional president.

Women’s volleyball team

Acting President, HIDSAM Darison Dangmei in his welcome and introductory speech appreciated all the dignitaries and delegates for participating the event. The event is to come together and share football and volleyball talents among the hill districts and nurture them accordingly, he said. RS. Heli Henry, Advisor HIDSAM, in his key note address emphasized on ‘Unity through Sports’ and encouraged all the players to play well with unity spirit. The dignitaries on the dais in their speech mentioned that “football is a beautiful game and encouraged the participating teams to play beautifully and enjoyed the game to their best effort.”

Before the 1st match football kick off, a minute silent prayer was observed for the expired HIDSAM officials in the person of Late. Lhunchon Chongloi, Secretary HIDSAM, and Late Seigin Singshit, Vice President, HIDSAM.

The opening ceremony footbal match was played between Chandel district against Senapti district. The fierce contest ended on a draw without goals. Tamenglong district beat Sadar hills in the second match with 2-1 margin. Sinthailung and Samson were the scorers of Tamenglong district while Lamminthang from Sadar Hills was the lone scorer in the second half of the match. Earlier in the morning, volley ball match between Senapati girls and Ukhrul girls enchanted the audience with some spectacular performances from both sides. Senapti however beat Ukhru in the final five deciding sets after coming back from 2-1 set down earlier.
