Ukhrul: A day after the report of the non-payment of 10 lakh to the The Prophets, winner of ShiRock 2022, that attracted heavy online backlash for the event organisers and the Manipur state Tourism Department, the the Aizawl based band has officially confirmed the payment of the prize money owed to them on Friday.
“We have received our prize money for winning Shirock 2022 ie ₹10,00,000 along with Best keyboardist award ₹25,000 from the Govt of Manipur Tourism Director! Nothing to worry about folks! Thanks to all our supporters around the country for the love and concern! We love you all <3,” wrote the band in their official social media handle, Facebook.
The online backlash did not stop at the non-payment of The Prophets, but it open old wounds of other band not paid in 2019, Reverse Tragedy.
The band reached out to Ukhrul Times and clarified that “Most of the people had a misconception of that Reverse Tragedy too didn’t get the payment when they won. In our time, back in 2018 when we won the competition just after one week we received the prize money and the next year i.e 2019 when we co-headline the event our performance fees and travel expenses was on due and it’s still unpaid.”
By the time of filing this report, it cannot be confirmed if the first runner up of ShiRock 2022, Symphonic Illusions from Meghalaya who won a sum of Rs 5 lakh has been paid too.
