CHANDEL: A three-day workshop on “Gender Equality: Way Forward for a Better Society” commenced at the Multipurpose Hall of United College, Lambung, Chandel, on Monday under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA).
The workshop, scheduled from September 21 to 23, aims to promote awareness and understanding of gender equality, gender stereotypes and the need for a more inclusive society.

The inaugural session featured lectures by resource persons from academic and public health backgrounds. Prof. M. Lilee, Head of the Department of Sociology, Manipur University, delivered lectures on “Understanding Gender Equality,” & “Nature of Gender Stereotype/Stereotyping,” focusing on the social dimensions and significance of gender equality.
Dr. B. Cingdeinieng, District AIDS Control Officer in-charge of Chandel and Tengnoupal, and T. Ricky Kom, Assistant Professor at United College, Lambung, Chandel, were also among the resource persons for the day’s sessions.
The workshop is being organised to encourage critical discussions on gender-based social norms and foster greater awareness of equality and inclusivity among students and participants. The resource persons for second and third day include Dr Homen Thangjam, Associate Professor, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus, Manipur; Dr L Khiloni, Assistant Professor, South East Manipur College, Komlathabi; Nungchim Christopher, Kha Manipur College, Kakching; and Dr Rev Thao John Chothe.

The inaugural function was attended by Chief Guest Reikimdaar Khaling, MCS, SDO, Chandel; Guest of Honour Dorendro Takhellambam, Vice-Principal, United College; and Functional President Dr. Danney Chara, Principal, United College, Lambung. Earlier, the welcome address was presented by Sk Dominic Bepol, HOD, Dept of History, followed by a keynote address by Dr Angpong Augustine Roel, Nodal Officer, PM-USHA, United College. Dr Mustaque Ahmed, Coordinator IQAC, United College, concluded the inaugural function with a vote of thanks.
