Three including two women held with 2 kg of opium in Manipur

Imphal: Three persons including two women were arrested with two kg of opium in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, police  said on Monday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Warepam Reshma Devi (40), T Neinu Zou (38) and Pukhrambam Shyam Singh (46), according to the police.

A combined force of Bishnupur district police commandos comprising female personnel of the district police and troops of 16 Assam Rifles nabbed them along with two kg of opium (Khani) on Sunday.

The combined force intercepted the three persons along with the contraband item while conducting frisking and checking at Potsangbam Maning area under Bishnupur police station, the police also said.

The opium was found in plastic packets marked as sweet toast and bright detergent they carry with, the police further said.

On spot enquiry, they revealed that the two packets containing opium were given to them by one Deban of Malom for selling to prospective buyers.

The arrested persons along with the recovered item were handed over to Bishnupur police station for taking further necessary legal action, the police added.
