Three Killed in Mizoram Accident; Two IIS Officers From Manipur Among Deceased

UKHRUL: Three people were killed and another was seriously injured after a vehicle they were travelling in fell into a gorge near Sialsuk in Mizoram on Thursday.

Two of the deceased were from Manipur’s Zeliangrong community and were identified as Dr Engam Pame, Additional Director General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) Regional Office in Imphal, and Nampibou Marinmai, Director (News) of Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) and All India Radio (AIR), Aizawl. H Lianvela, from Mizoram, a multi-tasking staff member of the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Aizawl, was also killed in the accident.

Officials said the accident took place as the group was returning to Aizawl after visiting Sialsuk, a tourist destination located around 65 km from the state capital. The vehicle, reportedly a Bolero, fell into a gorge while travelling along a steep and rugged stretch near the tourist site, reported the All India Radio News.

The driver of the vehicle sustained serious injuries in the accident. Reports said four people were travelling in the vehicle when it met with the accident, with the driver surviving and remaining conscious and able to communicate after the incident.

Pame was an Indian Information Service (IIS) officer serving as Additional Director General of the PIB Regional Office in Imphal. He had previously served as Director of the Directorate of Field Publicity in Shillong.

Marinmai was also an IIS officer and was serving as Director (News) at DDK and AIR, Aizawl. He was the Chairman of the Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) and had previously served as a Public Relations Officer with the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

Pame and Marinmai had attended an IMPCC meeting in Aizawl on Tuesday as special guests. The committee brings together government media units and organisations to coordinate public communication and information outreach.

H Lianvela was serving as a multi-tasking staff member with the CBC in Aizawl.
